FEATURED DESTINATION
VIAREGGIO, ITALY
We have recently returned from an area we love visiting along the Tuscan Coast, Viareggio. The area is very family friendly and a wonderful place to relax in.
Julie’s must-dos in Viareggio!
- Beach is the obvious one; and most of the private beaches have pools. It is a nice break from the sand to dip in the pool.
- Check out Nuovo Italia’s private beach! We spent most of our days there and just loved the pool, the sun beds and umbrellas on the beach.
- In the town of Viareggio there is lots of great shopping. The kids were happy to get a gelato almost hourly.
-
Make sure you eat at one of the many outdoor restaurants right along the beachfront.
-
Viareggio also has a few campgrounds if you love the great outdoors. We have camped in a few spots around Italy and have always really enjoyed it as a family.
-
You can rent bikes all over the city. We had a fun time renting a five person bike and riding along the coast!
The town also is famous for their Carnivale in February. It is a huge event! All along the coast are wonderful towns to stay in. We have also stayed 15 minutes up the road in Forte dei Marmi. The beaches are just as beautiful and you have access to the private beaches all along the coast too.

…and the gelato?
One of our favourite gelato places is Grom and there is one located in Viareggio. You have to get their hand-whipped cream on top, it is delicious!
