SANTA BARBARA, California, USA

If you find yourself in California, this so called ‘American Riviera’ is definitely worth a night or two!

Such a warm, safe and friendly place, it will immediately have you captivated.  The tiled red roofs and white stucco walls look just too good to be true.  Obviously why it has been used as a backdrop for countless movies and TV series!

WHERE WE STAYED

HYATT SANTA BARBARA

Contrary to what you would expect from a ‘Hyatt’, this hotel has such a boutique feel. The rooms are super spacious with oversized beds and a large bathroom. The buffet breakfast is first-class and the location is ideal!

WHAT TO DO WITH CHILDREN

BEACH (obviously!)

East Beach was literally on the door step of our hotel.  Family friendly and lots to do including Beach Volleyball!  Just watch your children don’t wander near the road (as it’s a busy one!).

PARKS

The Shoreline park is incredibly popular and has beautiful views of the sweeping Santa Barbara coastline.  A great place to have a picnic, bbq and let the children play on the playground.

SHOPPING

You absolutely MUST include at least a couple of hours strolling along the streets of Downtown Santa Barbara!  The architecture and landscaping alone are worth the effort!  Plus there are so many stunning (and unpretentious) boutiques to browse.

BEST EATS!

The children will love lunch at the Shoreline Beach Cafe where they can play in the sand while you enjoy your meal and don’t forget Stearns Wharf for some obligatory ice creams!

SANTA BARBARA ZOO

If you are staying longer than a couple of days, this is one of America’s best small zoos for some animal spotting.

THE SEA MUSEUM

Again, if you have time on your side, the Sea Museum is located on Stearns Wharf with interactive exhibits so children can discover the fun in science and the wonders of the natural world.

THE OLD MISSION

For some serious culture, The Santa Barbara Mission is simply breathtaking.  Perhaps not as interesting for your little ones, but there is plenty of space on the surrounding grass for them to run around while you take your photos.

Established in 1786, the Spanish architecture is incredible, especially when you breathe it all in facing the front facade with the rolling hills in the backdrop, it’s a photographer’s dream.

One of the major benefits of visiting Santa Barbara is the proximity to so many other amazing destinations; Malibu, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Los Angeles and San Francisco if you’re happy to drive that little bit further.

Tell us, have you been?  What did you love most about Santa Barbara?

Until next time, safe travels.
